NNA - MP Paula Yacoubian denounced, in an issued statement on Tuesday, "the Beirut Bar Association's decision to grant permission to prosecute a number of lawyers for their public activity and for expressing their views on certain cases of corruption and violation of the law."

Yacoubian expressed regret for leaving said lawyers prone to pressures and influences, while stressing that "immunity exists in order to enable them to voice their views for the sake of truth and in defense of liberties, not to suppress and discourage them from performing their role."

"The Bar Association is one of the most important pillars of the state of law and justice," confirmed Yacoubian, hoping that it would remain a fortification of the law and the honorable bar profession, instead of becoming a way to favor the rule of the unrightfully powerful.
