NNA - Caretaker Minister of Interior, Marwan Charbel, announced Wednesday that operations of inspection of Block B of Roumieh central prison would start tomorrow Thursday and would take place every week.



"You will see that the state exists and that everybody is ruled by the law, even in this block," Charbel told a joint conference he held at Roumieh premises with caretaker Minister of Justice, Shakib Qortbawi.



Both have inspected the prison to take a closer look on the condition of inmates, after Block B had been in crosshairs in media recently.



"We listened to the demands of prisoners. There are demands relevant to trials and the judiciary. We will try to speed up the pending trials, in collaboration with the Crime Fighting Department," Qortbawi told reporters.


He added that the Financial Prosecutor had finalized probe into corruption inside the prison and that he was still waiting for warrants to pursue involved civil servants.



Qortbawi noted that 36% of inmates were non Lebanese.
