Chidiac launches OECD Lebanon cooperation programme on good governance

NNA - Under the patronage of Prime Minister Saad Hariri, Minister of State for Administrative Development Affairs, Dr. May Chidiac, on Monday launched the cooperation programme between the Lebanese government and the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) on good governance.

 

The launch event, which took place at the Grand Serail, was attended by OECD Governance Programme Director Marcos Bonturi, Vice Prime Minister Ghassan Hasbani, Interior and Municipalities Minister Rayya El Hassan, and Economy Minister Mansour Bteish.

 

Also attending the launch ceremony had been US Ambassador to Lebanon, Elizabeth Richard, European Union Ambassador Christina Lassen, Italian Ambassador Massimo Marotti, German Ambassador Georg Birgelen, Kuwaiti Ambassador Abdel Aal Al Qinai, Saudi Ambassador Walid Bukhari, Spanish Ambassador José Maria Ferré de la Pena, and Austrian Ambassador Marian Wrba.

 

Scores of official, civil society and concerned dignitaries attended the ceremony.

 

In her delivered word, Minister Chidiac thanked OECD on this initiative, underlining the Minsirty's commitment to the right of citizens to access information, and the implementation of the law that was approved for this purpose.

 

"We are in the process of finalizing a national action plan for the implementation of the law with the support of UNDP and OECD," Minister Chidiac said, noting that the final draft will be discussed tomorrow to be approved shortly.

 

The Minister added that the Ministry shall "spare no effort in the future to help all ministries, departments, municipalities and government institutions to apply the law of "access to information" literally."

 

Chidiac also disclosed that the Ministry is in the final stages of completing the digital transformation strategy and developing an action plan for it, saying OECD has a central role in devising such an action plan.

 

Chidiac also pledged to work towards rendering Lebanon a member of the "Open Government Partnership" as a basic impetus to restore the confidence of the Lebanese citizen in his country.

She also urged all government sides to cooperate and rally efforts for this purpose.
