(Update) Ibrahim from Baabda: Nizar Zakka's release came following Aoun's letter to Rouhani

NNA - General Security Chief, Abbas Ibrahim, on Tuesday said in the wake of his meeting with President of the Republic, Michel Aoun, at the Baabda palace, that "Nizar Zakka was released following a letter from President Michel Aoun to his Iranian counterpart Hassan Rouhani."


"Nizar Zakka's release came as a result of a letter from President Aoun to his Iranian counterpart Hassan Rouhani," Maj. Gen. Ibrahim said, quoting Iranian officials' as saying that Zakka's release occurred in pursuant to the wish and request of President Aoun.


Maj. Gen. Ibrahim indicated that Zakka's involvement in any dossier is to be determined by the Iranian authorities, adding "what matters to us is that any citizen or any holder of a Lebanese nationality in any iota of the world- even if he violates the laws of his state of residence- our role remains to bring him back."


Ibrahim also noted that Hizbullah has played a role in this matter, but Iran has freed Zakka at President Aoun's request.
