NNA - President of the Republic General Michel Aoun, welcomed this Wednesday the Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs, David Satterfield, whom he told that "Lebanon, which is keen on its sovereignty at land, sea and air, believes that the demarcation of the land and sea borders would further promote stability along the border, in accordance with UN Security Council Resolution 1701," calling on the United States to "contribute to the achievement of this goal, especially by respecting Lebanon's land and sea borders and its right to prospect for oil and gas in the exclusive economic zone."

President Aoun and Ambassador Satterfield discussed the ideas handed over by Lebanon last week to US Ambassador to Beirut, Elizabeth Richard, which included a mechanism that could be adopted to demarcate the southern maritime border.

The President of the Republic presented to his guests Lebanon's standpoints, and listened to the position of the US administration. Consultations between the Lebanese and US sides will continue to be held so as to clarify some points related to said mechanism.
