NNA - Caretaker Prime Minister, Najib Mikati, concluded on Wednesday his visit to South Africa, after representing Lebanon in former President Nelson Mandela's farewell.
Mikati took part, alongside heads of states and foreign and Arab governments in the final glimpse of Mandela's body, which was shrouded at the presidential residence in the capital, Pretoria.
Mikati met on the sidelines of the memorial of President Mandela in Johannesburg, U.S. President Barack Obama, French President Francois Hollande, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, British Prime Minister David Cameron, Prime Minister of Canada Stephen Harper and Prime Minister of Italy, Enrico Letta.
All sides expressed keenness on stability in Lebanon and their willingness to help the Lebanese government to shoulder the burdens resulting from the Syrian refugees' crisis.
Mikati also held a long meeting with Mr. Gold Brown, assigned by the United Nations, to address the affairs of education in the world through the International Fund for Education.
Both sides tackled the educational situation in Lebanon in general, and the implications of the Syrian influx to Lebanon.
Brown pledged to work to secure the necessary funding in order to help raise the level of education in Lebanon, including the creation of appropriate infrastructure for schools.
Mikati also visited the new headquarters of the Embassy of Lebanon, where he was received by the acting Embassy, Khachdourean Ara and his wife, who briefed Mikati on the conditions of the Lebanese in South Africa.
