NNA - European Union's Ambassador to Lebanon, Angelina Eichhorst, on Tuesday underlined that assuring a long-term economic growth was mandatory in order that democracy should be enrooted.



"The EU is working on helping its partners face two major challenges: the first is to build deep-rooted democracy (...) and the second is to guarantee a long-term economic growth since without is, democracy cannot be entrenched," she explained.



The Lebanese University organized today a seminar on political participation in the Middle East region, in collaboration with the European Union Commission in Lebanon, on the occasion of the International Human Rights Day.



In her approach, Eichhorst broached the required mainstays to building a diversified pluralist civil state, where the rights and freedoms of citizens are secured.


She stressed that the EU was not just working within the scope of Europe, but also assuming a leading role in the international and diplomatic ties, as well as in trade, development, and humanitarian assistance.



"The EU considers human rights a priority and a connection in our foreign relations," she indicated.
