NNA - The Judicial Council issued Friday a ruling in the case of a number of Fatah al-Islam militants for unlawful entry into Lebanese territories, sentencing eight of them to imprisonment for a three year term along with a fine of one million and two hundred thousand Lebanese pounds each, while another was given two year imprisonment and a fine of one million Lebanese pounds; all are to be banned from ever setting foot in Lebanon.
The Council also declared the innocence of two men for the lack of sufficient evidence to their unlawful entry.
In 2006, and after the death of Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, some of the Syrian, Palestinian and Jordanian militants who fought by his side and who were wanted by the Syrian authorities , left Yarmouk refugee camp and entered Lebanon illegally and stayed in the Palestinian refugee camps, raising the banner of Fatah al-Intifada, which was led by their then leader Shaker al-Absi , a Palestinian-Jordanian trained in aviation in Libya, served in North Yemen and fought in Nicaragua, before being imprisoned in Syria .
Al-Absi began smuggling fighters from Syria to increase the number of his fanatic recruits who facilitated the rise of Fatah al- Islam which became notorious after waging war against the Lebanese Armed Forces in Nahr al-Bared camp in north of the country.
