Calm prevails in Tripoli, Shahhal calls to spurn conflicts

NNA - Calm and stability prevailed throughout Tripoli streets before Friday prayers started, noting that the sit-in called forth by Sheikh Dahi al-Islam Shahhal has been replaced by a sermon he has given at Mansouri mosque, National News Agency correspondent reported.

After recapitulating the current juncture in the capital of North Lebanon, Sheikh Shahhal said he flatly refused to see young Muslims being fought at army checkpoints.

"We want the good for the country," the founder of the Salafist Movement in Lebanon said.

He called for carrying on peaceful rallies, urging mosques' speakers to appeal to spurn conflicts, protect stability and security, and confirm that Tripoli will always be a city of coexistence.

Tripoli's civil society committees have separately gathered at the park of Rashid Karami Expo to head to Beirut and partake in the sit-it staged in solidarity with the battered city.
