Mikati: I have spared no effort to put an end to the events in Tripoli

NNA - Caretaker Prime Minister, Najib Mikati, released a statement Sunday in which he addresses the people of Tripoli, confirming his solidarity with them during these difficult days and asserting that he has spared no effort to stop the clashes that sowed death and destruction.

"Every day I see the suffering, burning and killing in the city because criminals have taken it hostage," he said, lamenting the innocent lives lost and the terrorism targeting Tripoli.

"Faced with this painful reality, I find myself obliged to put everyone face to face with their responsibilities and point the finger to gaps in the monitoring of the situation; as the most imperative issue to me at this point is to protect the city and reduce the shedding of innocent blood."

"Yesterday we held an extensive meeting in Tripoli. It was decided, after consultations with the President of the Republic, that the security forces be put under the command of the army who shall take all necessary measures to control the security. The judiciary has issued arrest warrants against all criminals. We are sure that the military will assume its responsibilities and execute all warrants," he concluded.
