Fneish: To adopt transparency in approaching electricity file

Wed 20 Feb 2019 at 13:41 Politics

NNA - Minister of Youth and Sports Mohammad Fneish said in a statement today that "the electricity sector in Lebanon will worsen and deteriorate if no urgent implementation plan is put in place to address the imbalance in it."

"The electricity file is the biggest challenge for the new government. It puts a huge financial burden on the Lebanese treasury, especially after the total accumulated electricity deficit in 26 years, between 1992 and 2017, amounts at $ 36 billion, which equals 45% of the total public debt," he said.

Fneish stressed "the need to adopt transparency in this vital file, (...) and to move towards benefiting from the support of every country that provides assistance to Lebanon, (...) and therefore not give in to any pressures and interventions be it external or political."
