NNA - Minister of Public Works and Transportation, Youssef Fenianos, on Tuesday announced that the Chekka main road is now mostly open to traffic, and that a final solution will be reached as the rain season ends.
"The road was reopened today, except for the part alongside the wall," Fenianos told a press conference.
"Work will take two to three additional months because water is stored inside the mountains," he explained.
"We now have a vision of the solution following the study conducted by the Lebanese University pro bono," he said.
He also revealed that Prime Minister Saad Hariri had vowed to transfer the required funds from the Higher Relief Committee to fix the battered road, but that the Public Works Ministry did not need the money anymore.
"There were no funds at the Ministry; therefore, we discussed means to remove rubbles at the lowest cost," he clarified.
