Mikati discusses Syrian refugees' affairs with UN delegation

NNA - Caretaker Prime Minister, Najib Mikati, discussed on Friday morning at the Grand Serail, the Syrian refugees affairs with United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees Antonio Guterres, in the presence of UNHCR Representative in Lebanon Ninette Kelly and the accompanying delegation.



"I want to express once again, on behalf of the United Nations, our deep appreciation for the generous support provided by the Lebanese people and the Lebanese authorities for many of the displaced Syrians who fled to Lebanon in search of safety they have lost in their own country," Guterres said.



He added that the UN was aware of the size of the implications of this issue on the Lebanese economy and the Lebanese society, asking the international community to provide more support for Lebanon and not just for the displaced Syrians in Lebanon, but also for Lebanon, the Lebanese people and the Lebanese communities.



"After the presentation of the World Bank report which recognized the repercussions of this tragedy on the Lebanese economy and the Lebanese society , it is important that the international community and the countries, that have the potential to provide significant support for the Trust Fund and the mechanisms established, to express solidarity towards Lebanon and the Lebanese people who deserve it," he confirmed.



Guterres said that at the same time, they will launch today a report showing the size of the tragedy of the Syrian displaced children who suffered from violence, did not attend schools so far and have lost their parents.
