Mikati: Qatar visit energized bilateral ties

NNA - Outgoing Prime Minister, Najib Mikati, said Wednesday that his visit to Qatar today and the talks he held with Sheikh Tamim and other officials had re-instigated more vivid ties between both countries.

Mikati had arrived in Doha earlier this morning for talks over the Lebanese-Qatari bilateral relations and dossiers of joint cooperation.

Both Mikati and Qatar Prince, Sheikh Tamim Ben Hamad, sat in one-to-one and discussed the current general juncture in the Arab and Middle East region.

"The visit is chiefly to confirm and boost the Lebanese-Qatari relations, which we deem one of the best ties, and second, to thank Qatar for the role it is assuming to help Lebanon, as to the liberation of the Lebanese pilgrims who were held hostages in Azaz and for the mediation it is undertaking to help free the two archbishops Yuhanna Ibrahim and Boulos Yazegi as well as Lebanese cameraman Samir Kassab," Mikati said in the wake of the visit.

"We also agreed to hold a meeting between Qatari and Lebanese ministers to explain the goals and mechanisms of the fund devoted to address the socio-economic repercussions of the Syrian crisis on Lebanon," he added.

"In a nutshell, this visit gave back momentum to the bilateral ties between Lebanon and Qatar," he concluded.

Mikati was accompanied to Doha by the Ministers of Foreign Affairs, Social Affairs, Interior, and Economy, as well as by the General Security Chief, Major General Abbas Ibrahim.
